ABOUT THE ROLE:
**intake notes from March 2024 for a different role on the team (NON-LEAD) are here below, same manager, same team so putting here if helpful in the meantime:
-want decent level of experience, 5-7+ years with design chops. Within Figma is a key. We moved from adobe XD to be completely on Figma. Figma is a big factor. Those out of XD can adapt, but don't have bandwidth to ramp up, so having Figma experience is key.
-within Figma, not just using for design but where they are in prototyping, levels of prototyping they've done in Figma as well. Need more than intermediate here. Advance type prototype builder within Figma.
-other "soft" areas- other financial companies they've worked with is an icing on the cake. Nuances of the industry with compliance and regulatory.
-team is 6, also use partner agency for strategic work. That's more around strategic move within design system, so helping connect design ops/devops.
-all customer facing. Website is a digital product, financial advisors use it. Called Advice Works. There is a mobile app to some parts of it. We have advisors using it but it's also end client facing to the advisors' clients. Currently only have app for the client side. Looking at mobile version for advisors. Desktop is responsive.
-not just experience with around marketing type of sites. Not heavy ecommerce, need to understand digital products similar to what financial advisor would use, trading platforms, like from schwab . Utility as opposed to marketing or "splashy." not artistic element
-most of team on west coast. Pst and cst ok. East coast is a little tougher so prefer to avoid. If all the other boxes check out, can entertain but it's not ideal.
-conversion is possible.
-want to see portfolios - walk through thought process.
-really need a balance between ui/ux. Really need UI, design elements. At same time, moving more into building prototypes where UX aspect really key to bring those principles into how to create the prototypes. Really need balance of both.
-interview: panel interview 2-3 of folks from my team talking to them, the lead will review the resume. 1 and done. Maybe have 2nd round if needed. 45-60 mins. Will select a handful to interview initially.
-Figma is primary component. Not just in design but going into prototyping.
-the 3 we shared in "resume review" not the best fit. 1 person who had stronger figma but stronger in UX (without as much UI). Other 2 more academic view in terms of experience which would be difficult to push forward. Some corporate, but immediate mindset coming out of academic background. Silpa lacked enough Figma. Angeli the strongest, but stronger toward UX as opposed to being balanced between UI/UX
-collaboration working with other departments and teams? If familiar with storybook, that's fine. Familiar with it, that's great. Work in agile world, will be assigned with some scrum teams. Working with the dev leads, experience owners.
-if someone has come from small team that is great

Job Description
A Senior Design Lead is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing experience design strategies and initiatives. This role combines a deep understanding of user-design principles with leadership skills to ensure that products and services meet the needs and expectations of users.
The primary role of a Senior Design Lead is to collaborate with Product Managers, Tech Leads and Design team to define and execute the overall user experience vision and strategy, ensuring a consistent and seamless experience across various online and offline touchpoints.
Working with authority and professionalism, they will lead design tasks on assigned projects or may delegate tasks and offer feedback to team members, ensuring the high quality of the digital design work and displaying the expertise that has gone into the project. A bias of quality but keen awareness of timelines and due dates are important for this role.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of UI/UX work on digital platforms/applications.
Responsibilities
Team leadership: Work together and mentor a team of design professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support. Ensure the teams collaboration, growth, and adherence to design processes and methodologies.
UX design and prototyping: Proven expertise in user interface (UI) design, interaction design, andinformation architecture. Lead the creation of wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs to communicate and test design concepts.
Stakeholder management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and business stakeholders, to ensure alignment and a shared understanding of user experience goals.
User research and insights: Involved in user research activities to gain a deep understanding of user needs, behaviors, and motivations. Utilize research findings to inform design decisions and validate design solutions. Collaborate with team members to execute usability testing strategies to validate design decisions and uncover areas for improvement.
Industry awareness: Staying up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in user experience design and provide thought leadership and guidance on emerging UX trends and innovations.
Requirements
5+ years of UI design experience designing for complex digital product solutions (not branding or marketing websites). Must have a portfolio available for review with examples of project experience that demonstrates strategic and conceptual thinking. Be highly proficient with design software such as Figma, etc. Very skilled in creation of prototypes and wireframes in mid and high-fidelity using Figma. A clear understanding of the importance of user-centered design, design thinking and research methodologies through formal training or work experience. A customer-focused approach and experience conducting and leveraging qualitative & quantitative user research methodologies and insights to drive design decisions (e.g. UXTweak, UserZoom, User Testing, etc.). Understand and apply accessibility to design. Manage timelines and multiple concurrent projects. Self-starter and operate at a high level independently. Fluent with Mac system.
Nice to have
Experience working in Wealth Management or Financial industry. Experience working in an Agile framework, iterating on the product based on user input and stakeholders direction.
Experience developing designs for digital products with complex tech stacks. Experience or familiarity with Storybook, Chromatic, NPM, etc. Experience with CSS/HTML.
Degree in graphic design or related degree.
