Position Overview:

At the Department of Juvenile Justice the Treatment Unit Administrator position leads a team of clinicians delivering mental health services to youth committed to the Department of Juvenile Justice for their assigned facility. This position plans, organizes, executes, and provides quality assurance for treatment services. The Treatment Unit Administrator supervises mental health staff, interns, and contractual employees, and collaborates with staff to direct treatment for the youth in custody. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing quality mental health services to support positive outcomes for youth and an environment conducive to staff and youth growth. Essential Functions:

  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • The Treatment Unit Administrator shall organize, plan, execute, control, and evaluate the supportive program of the comprehensive treatment services.
  • Consults with administrative team and Clinical Services Supervisor on treatment needs.
  • Serves as Crisis Team Leader to respond to and assume, as necessary, certain facility administrative responsibilities during these crisis situations.
  • Responsible for supervision of Interns and Field Placements from training programs and the provision of therapy to identified youth.
  • Receives clinical oversight from the Chief of Mental Health Services.
  • Serves on institutional and divisional planning and program committees.
  • Serves as Duty Administrative Officer.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Requires three (3) years of professional experience in clinical psychology, clinical social work, or clinical
    professional counseling.
  • Requires licensure as a licensed clinical psychologist, or a licensed clinical social worker, or a licensed
    clinical professional counselor.

Preferred Qualifications: (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience as a licensed psychologist, clinical social worker, or professional counselor.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience working with children or adolescents in a
    residential treatment or custody setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience supervising staff in psychology, social work,
    counseling, and/or a related setting.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience utilizing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to diagnose and treat individuals with mental health disorders.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience implementing Trauma Informed Care.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Excel and/or equivalent computer program.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with an electronic medical record or youth record database system.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Requires the ability to be on call for Duty Administrator Officer duties.
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to successfully pass a drug test. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
