Job Description

Senior Scientist, In Vitro Biology
The Senior Scientist, In Vitro Biology is a laboratory-based position conducting research and experiments supporting drug discovery research. This person will work with minimal supervision in a cross-disciplinary team to develop and/or optimize biochemical in-vitro and cell-based assays. They are expected to bring broad breadth of knowledge from hands-on experience in an industrial setting and maintain a high level of cutting-edge technical expertise to recommend and implement novel and enabling technologies to meet specific project needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Work primarily at the bench developing novel assays to assess potency of inhibition of enzymes, protein-protein or protein-ligand interactions.
  • Work closely with adjacent functional teams to optimize and validate new assays for transfer to the in vitro screening team or to external CROs.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to the in vitro pharmacology team in troubleshooting and improving assay performance.
  • Propose and conduct experiments to characterize mode of action for inhibitors, including enzyme or protein binding kinetics and deconvoluting targets in complex pathways.
  • Draw on knowledge of cutting-edge assay technologies to recommend and implement fit-for-purpose solutions to address scientific needs.
  • Prepare research presentations and present findings at team meetings and for scientific leadership.
Requirements
  • B.S. degree with 10+ years biotech/pharma industry experience or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field with 5+ years industrial experience is required.
  • The candidate must have proven experience performing assay development and optimization for inhibitor screening in an industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience with development and execution of diverse plate-based assays for mid- to high-throughput screens is essential.
  • Previous hands-on experience designing experiments to characterize inhibitor mechanisms of action and binding kinetics.
  • A background in automation, cell culture, or protein binding assays (e.g., AlphaLISA, FP, HTRF, CETSA, BRET, etc) is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for exploring new assay technologies.
  • Must be able to work independently with supervision and take guidance from multiple stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Adaptable/flexible with a teamwork-oriented attitude and excellent interpersonal and organizational skills: willing and able to multitask and adjust to shifting priorities in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for effective presentation of complex scientific data to cross-functional teams and senior level scientists.
  • Knowledge of computer software and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism).
