Position overview
Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar in Evolutionary Development
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC salary scales set the minimum pay based on the individuals Experience Level , which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. See the salary scale titled, Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee /Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow / Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Direct -Fiscal Year . A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,737-$77,179.

Percent time: Full-time (100%)

Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications. Ph.D. must be in hand at time of the initial appointment.

Position duration: Maximum Duration of Service in a Postdoctoral Title- Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time and the initial appointment is for a minimum of two years, with the possibility of reappointment. The total duration of an individuals postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution.

Position Description

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar in Evolutionary Development . Under the direction of Dr. Aide Macias-Muoz, the postdoctoral scholar will work on several projects using cnidarians as model systems to investigate the genetic underpinnings of complex trait evolution, development, and regeneration.

The postdoctoral scholar will work on projects that integrate genetics and an evolutionary framework to understand the genetic underpinnings of complex traits using cnidarians. These projects employ a variety of tools and techniques, including next-generation sequencing, in situ hybridization, single-cell genomics, and gene editing. The selected candidate will work closely with research teams, mentor undergraduate students, design and implement data collection, analyze genomic data, publish results in scientific journals, and communicate results at scientific conferences and other outlets.

  • Experience generating sequencing data (RNA, DNA, single cell genomics).
