Job Summary:

As a Piping/Layout Designer, you will support design development of facility layouts and piping & equipment 3D models for various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors including DOE and DOD, as well as commercial nuclear projects and business development projects. #LI-SNH

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • 3D modeling of piping and equipment in a 3D model environment. 
  • Preparation of drawings/documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics drawings.
  • Assists with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines.
  • Assists in constructing detailed scale models​. 
  • Ensures compliance with approved PD&P design standards in own work and by those assigned, to provide quality design​. Ensures PD&P systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. 
  • Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by assigned designers/drafters for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality and satisfactory completion​. 
  • Participates in constructability reviews.​ 
  • Possesses responsibility for the accuracy of bulk material quantity take-offs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline​. 
  • Works with designers in other disciplines to coordinate overall design and technical requirements​. 
  • Develops work plans, budgets and schedules for basic PD&P designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor in designated discipline.​ 
  • Interfaces with stress and pipe support engineers, construction, and suppliers during the preparation of piping designs for the purpose of model/space control, etc.
  • Performs coordination review of specifications and other documents prepared by others.
  • Candidate should possess an advanced knowledge of piping codes such as ASME B31.3 or B31.1. 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1: AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 3-4 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Level 2: AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 5-6 years of experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Hands-on experience using OpenPlant 3D and/or SmartPlant S3D piping design platform and isometric extraction.
  • Preferred previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment, education and travel.
  • Working knowledge of ASME B31.3 or B31.1 Codes.
