Job Title: Inpatient Facility Coder (Contract-to-Hire)

Location: Remote – Must reside in AR, FL, GA, NC, OK, TN, TX, or UT

Industry: Healthcare – Medical Coding

Pay: $30 - $40/hr

About Our Client:

Our client is a healthcare organization seeking experienced Inpatient Facility Coders to support their remote coding operations. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with full-time hours and no weekend or on-call responsibilities.

Job Description:

This role requires proficiency in inpatient facility coding with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance. Coders will be expected to review and interpret medical documentation, assign and sequence ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, and ensure accurate MS-DRG assignment in accordance with official coding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret health record documentation for inpatient encounters
  • Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnosis and procedure codes
  • Apply Present on Admission indicators and calculate MS-DRGs, SOI, and ROM
  • Validate and correct patient status, discharge disposition, and length of stay for appropriate reimbursement
  • Abstract clinical data elements (e.g., physician names, birth weight) according to client guidelines
  • Query physicians for clarification when documentation is ambiguous or unclear
  • Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Specialists to enhance documentation and coding accuracy
  • Monitor and maintain productivity and coding quality metrics
  • Stay current with official coding guidelines and compliance standards
  • Complete required training and continuing education as per client policy

Qualifications:

  • Active credentials: RHIT, RHIA, CCS (AHIMA or AAPC)
  • Minimum of 2 years of inpatient facility coding experience required
  • Proficient with EPIC and Optum systems
  • Familiarity with MS-DRGs, SOI, ROM, and pre-bill review processes
  • Strong knowledge of coding compliance and CMS regulations
  • Must reside in one of the following states: AR, FL, GA, NC, OK, TN, TX, UT

  • Schedule:
    • Orientation: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM CST
    • After orientation: Flexible hours between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM CST (Mon–Fri)
  • Remote: Yes
  • Number of Openings: 2
