Your Impact:

The Home Preservation Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that Habitat Greater San Francisco can sustain homeownership by helping vulnerable homeowners retain their homes as an asset for generations to come. You will be directly responsible for completing assigned home repair and rehab activities. Key aspects of this role include executing qualified repair work, maintaining safe and organized job sites, overseeing the activities of volunteers, and delivering excellent customer service.

Primary Responsibilities:

Renovate Homes (75%)

  • Develop and perform skills in trades typically performed in-house by Habitat. These include but are not limited to, framing, window installation, siding, roofing, insulation, painting & paint prep, flooring installation, and other carpentry and home construction activities.
  • Makes responsible use of time and materials, minimizes waste, and evaluates job progress against schedule, communicating deviations to the production manager in a timely manner.
  • Train and lead volunteers in the construction activities listed above.
  • Contribute to the safety and security of personnel and property by helping to maintain a clean & orderly job site and following and enforcing standards and procedures.
  • Collaboration on Other Organizational Objectives (20%)
  • Support project manager by performing daily site visits, communicating with clients, and checking in with vendors. 
  • Utilize Procore to submit daily progress photos and document project progress. 
  • Work closely with project managers to facilitate site requests, assist in project oversight, order materials, and help foresee any potential issues. 
  • Support organization and department objectives by participating in activities outside the assigned build site, such as working on critical home repairs.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by participating in All-staff, department, and team meetings, training, and retreats as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time work experience 
  • Demonstrated experience working with customers, clients, or students
  • Fast learner with interest and aptitude for work in the construction trades
  • Excellent ability to follow directions and ask questions as needed
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work a Tuesday- Saturday schedule
  • Ability to work OT as necessary
  • Valid CA driver's license, clean driving record, and access to personal vehicle required. 
  • Must be able to travel as needed through the tri-county service area ( SF, Marin, San Mateo)
  • Must be able to travel within HGSF’s tri-county service area ( SF, Marin, San Mateo)
  • Must be able to pass a background check( In accordance with state and county law: convictions do not necessarily rule out employment, it depends on the nature and severity of the conviction and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, check is conducted on the last 7 years only.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience or training in construction preferred

Work Environment:

Works in outside conditions that occasionally include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. The noise level will be loud at times. Work on heights required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. 
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina, and the ability to lift and carry at least 60 pounds, go up and down stairs and ladders, and endure the full workday on their feet with or without reasonable accommodation. 
  • Must be able to frequently communicate in English (verbal), including hazard communication, giving and receiving training, working as part of a team, and supporting volunteers.
  • Must be able to recognize and respond to potential hazards based on both visual and auditory warning systems.

Compensation for this role is competitive, DOE.
