Your Specific Responsibilities:

Position is assigned to the Community Health Improvement (CHI) Section within the Okaloosa County Health Department (OCHD). This involves advanced-level work in a grant-funded tobacco prevention program, promoting, maintaining, and improving individual and/or community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. Complex tasks are performed under limited supervision where general policies may not have been previously established and standard methods may not be available. This position requires an extensive knowledge of youth, community dynamics, and an ability to be an effective agent for change. 

 

Coordinates the youth prevention component, Students Works Against Tobacco (SWAT), by planning and conducting youth meetings, recruiting and retaining youth in the SWAT organization, and recruiting SWAT sponsors. Work with school clubs to plan and implement anti-tobacco trainings and activities. Participates in Regional and/or Statewide SWAT phone calls and meetings. Tracks SWAT promotional/incentive items. Participates in community events to promote SWAT and tobacco policy change and/or adoption. Identifies and recruits adult partnership members, parents, teachers, and volunteers in the county to support the Okaloosa County Tobacco Free Partnership. Coordinates activities for the school grades K-12 policy areas to include meeting with collaborators and training partners and/or SWAT youth to present information to decision makers.

 

Serves as tobacco product retail point of sale policy lead, tobacco free public places policy lead, smoke free multi-unit housing policy lead and cessation access policy lead.

 

Prepares and submits Commitment Change Requests (CCR) as needed. Prepares and submits annual work plan and quarterly reports in Automated Tobacco Activity Collection System (ATACS). Acts as a fiscal liaison between the County Tobacco program and the OCHD Finance and Accounting Section. Responsible for tobacco program ordering and budgets in coordination with Community Health Improvement Section Chief.

 

Attends training and maintains competencies. Transports adult volunteers, and transports and chaperones youth volunteers/advocates, to local, regional, state, and/or national tobacco prevention and control trainings, events, meetings, functions, or activities.

 

Performs all other duties as assigned in support of the Agency’s mission and vision.
