About the Role
Our client, a leader in scientific research and development services, is seeking an experienced Field Service Manager to lead a team of skilled Field Service Technicians in the Western Region. This role involves overseeing the daily operations of a 12-member team responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating analytical instruments used in R&D labs. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience managing field service teams in capital equipment or analytical instrumentation environments (not suitable for computer or copier service teams). This position reports to the Service Manager for the Western Region.
Compensation : Base salary between $91,000 - $103,000/year, plus bonus, full benefits, profit-sharing, and a $10,000 anniversary bonus every five years.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Management : Supervise a team of Field Service Technicians, including interviewing, hiring recommendations, staff development, work scheduling, and performance appraisals.
- Training & Development : Ensure technicians are well-trained, keeping their skills updated with in-house training and continuous development.
- Policy Adherence : Maintain compliance with service department policies, safety and quality standards, and ISO17025 requirements.
- Performance Monitoring : Track performance metrics using systems to calculate MTBF, MTTR, revenue per technician, and profit margins, leveraging SAP and Excel macros.
- Equipment Calibration : Oversee routine calibration of test equipment necessary for ISO/IEC 17025 compliance.
- Product & Service Analysis : Compile operational records such as repair times, maintenance statistics, and test results, reporting any product trends or weaknesses.
- Technical Training : Participate annually in required technical training courses, achieving certification upon completion.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience : Minimum of 3 years in a technical services environment managing a field service team, specifically within analytical instruments or capital equipment sectors.
- Technical Knowledge : Proficiency in using electronic schematics, testing equipment, and repair tools to support service engineers.
- Educational Background : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
