Job Description

Shape a Zero-Harm Culture in a World-Class Premix Facility

Picture this: It’s 8:00 a.m. at our Schenectady, NY premix plant—one of dsm-firmenich’s largest globally. You start your day with a walk-through of dry blending and warehousing areas, scanning for combustible dust risks, validating Lockout/Tagout practices, and checking on actions from last week’s HAZOP. By mid-morning, you’re coaching supervisors on incident learning, aligning a CAPEX project with process safety lifecycle requirements, and finalizing updates to a machine safety assessment. In the afternoon, you partner with the Facility Trainer to deliver confined space training and reinforce Life Saving Rules and Key Security Behaviors across operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Logistics. That’s impact—every day.

Role Overview

As the site’s EHS process safety and security expert, you’ll build and execute Safety, Health, Environmental (SHE) and Security strategies and programs that meet corporate standards and comply with U.S. regulations—ensuring a safe, secure workplace for everyone while supporting Human Nutrition & Health production (dietary supplements and food premix).

What You’ll Do

  • Design the site’s approach to managing combustible dust hazards across product handling—through technical guidance, SOP creation, field studies, and hands-on training.
  • Develop, organize, and deliver SHE & Security training (confined space, work permits, incident investigation and root cause analysis, Lockout/Tagout/Tryout), ensuring all curricula remain current; embed dsm-firmenich Life Saving Rules and Key Security Behaviors.
  • Lead process safety analysis studies and drive closure of recommendations; participate in HAZOP, Chemical Hazard Assessment (CHA), and Machine Safety Assessment (MSA); prepare documentation for local Management of Change (MOC) and ensure specifications align with requirements while exploring cost-efficient solutions.
  • Own incident investigations using Root Cause Failure Analysis, define effective corrective actions and lessons learned, and communicate learnings to peer sites with similar risk profiles.
  • Champion process safety excellence across the full lifecycle, closing gaps in systems, competencies, training, and behaviors; steer improvement programs using KPIs and team proposals.
  • Ensure consistent technical management of the process safety lifecycle, including in CAPEX projects; maintain an auditable trail for process safety scenarios and update as experience evolves.
  • Deliver core SHE training on site; support process safety tools (e.g., PS-Tools, PSN-Standards); monitor legal and corporate requirement changes and propose locally practical implementations.

Location, Schedule, and Pay

  • Location: Schenectady, NY
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Salary range: $100,000–$135,000

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. In addition to base salary, we also offer a comprehensive total rewards package, inclusive of annual incentive pay, a retirement savings plan, health care coverage, paid time off, recognition programs and a broad range of other benefits. All benefits and incentives are subject to eligibility requirements.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical SHE discipline (required).
  • 5+ years in SHE/EHS roles, with strong process safety focus.
  • Professional certifications desired: CSP, CIH, CHP, CHMM, or CRSP.
  • Solid knowledge of safety and security good practices and OSHA standards for general industry.
  • Working familiarity with NFPA standards, EU regulations, and U.S. EPA regulations.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret environmental programs and documentation.
  • Manufacturing experience with SHE responsibility (preferred), emphasizing process safety.
  • Regulatory fluency: 29 CFR 1910, 40 CFR, 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG.
  • Bonus points for proficiency in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, FSQA, and Machine Safety Inspections.

What We Offer

  • Paid holidays, 18 days PTO + 2 floating holidays.
  • Full healthcare benefits from day one: medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • 401(k) with a generous company match.
  • Unique career paths across health, nutrition, and beauty—discover what drives you and get support to pursue it.
  • Impact millions daily—sustainability is embedded in everything we do.
  • Science-led innovation—from biotech breakthroughs to sustainability game-changers—you’ll work on what’s next.
  • Growth that keeps pace with you—join an industry leader committed to developing your expertise and leadership.
  • A culture that lifts you up—collaborative teams, shared wins, and colleagues who cheer you on.
  • A community where your voice matters—it’s essential to serving our customers well.
